Koinonia
Director, Ms. Stephanie Kirk
The Koinonia Community Development Corporation, a non-profit 501© 3 organization, was established in 2000 by Rev. William B. Blount, Sr. to facilitate a broader scope for the East Augusta community of Augusta Georgia to seek, receive and administer funds for the enhancement of community service programs. To accomplish our mission through education, economic development, health and social services the following programs are already in progress:
The Koinonia Suspension School: Help to keep suspended students, grades 6 – 12, off the streets and in a classroom setting. Here they receive individual attention and tutoring to keep them abreast of the lessons that are taking place in the traditional classroom during their absence.
Summer Enrichment Program: The days of summer are filled with academic and entertaining exercises (Sports, arts, games, dances, contests, free-time, nature hikes, and much more) for youth ages 5 – 14 years. Life skills classes and field trips are tailored to their age groups. The Camp provides opportunity for personal growth and independence and target moderate to low- income youth in the Richmond County area of Augusta, Georgia.
The Manna Food Giveaway: A mobile food distribution program that allows Koinonia to distribute 5,000 pounds of food to the needy every other month.
Brown Bag: A monthly distribution of food for senior citizens.
Angel Food Giveaway: A monthly distribution from a non-profit, nondenominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief. One unit assists in feeding a family of four for about a week.
Our long- range plans include:
The Early Learning Center: Age’s infant-K4. This is part of our welfare-to-work initiative to primarily enable people on welfare to pursue educational and jobs skills, opportunities to improve the quality of their lives and to make them job qualified.
Computer Center: To help community kids enhance their computer skills and help with homework. The computer center will also be used to aid parents in learning and/or sharpening their computer skills and as a search tool for employment.
Senior Citizen Assisted Living Village: 1-2 Bedroom flat apartments with an on-site resident manager with transportation support services to the doctors, grocery stores, banks, etc.
After School Program: Koinonia Early Learning Center is scheduled to be open 24 hours and will include an after school program providing tutoring, a snack, and recreation.
Koinonia Daylight Program: Will serve as an alternative to the traditional juvenile justice system providing at-risk youth education, job training, computer skills and counseling. Koinonia’s plan is to address the problem at its roots and ensure that individual basic needs and the social deficits that exist within our communities are combated. Koinonia will provide a strong concentration on academics and behavior modification.
DFACS Resource Center: We would like to have on hand information center offering GED and Technical School Assistance Programs to aid residents interested in the welfare to work initiative.
Koinonia Housing Project: Our goal is to build 2-3 bedroom affordable homes to enhance the quality of the community.
Medical Resource Support Center: An information center providing a vital resource to educate residents on health issues encouraging preventive care, medical information, and resource assistance.
Christianomics Mall: We envision a Christian Mall to include Bookstore, Restaurant, Barber and Beauty Shop, and Dry Cleaners.
